No matter what you call it, be it New Pier or Golden Mile, this place is one of the coolest surf spots in town and even around the world. But a lot of folks say it was more fun before they built piers in the bay. Here's the deal: it has a small area where you can catch the waves, and when the waves are small, it's pretty easy to ride them. But when they get big, it's seriously tough, especially if you're a beginner. There's one more catch - because the take-off area is small, it can get really crowded with surfers. The best waves usually come from the southwest or the east, and when it's high tide, the waves are fantastic.
